Let’s talk about it.
Why do people seek counseling?
People often see counselors for a variety of reasons. Most of us just have a lot on our plate and can use some help! Here are a few common reasons someone might start therapy.
Stress
Life can be stressful at times. Together we can determine ways to lessen life’s stressors and implement coping skills to help.
Anxiety
What is anxiety? Some people feel it in the body. Maybe your heart rate increases or your stomach hurts. Maybe it looks like excessive worrying that interrupts daily life. Anxiety is your mind and body’s alarm system working overtime. Therapy provides tools to calm the nervous system and regain a sense of control and peace.
Depression
Perhaps you are experiencing symptoms of depression. Sadness, loss of interest, irritable mood, feeling tired or having difficulty sleeping. Low self worth, or difficulty concentrating. All of these can be indicators of depression.
Past Trauma
Going through a distressing event that invoked danger or perceived threat of harm or death.
Relational Issues
Are you having difficulty in a relationship? Maybe a spouse, friend, or co-worker? In counseling you can learn how to increase communication skills, set healthy boundaries for yourself, and strengthen relationships.
Other Reason
College & career, couples, family conflict, grief, parenting, peer relationships, self-esteem, sexual abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), spirituality, and women’s issues.
